Friday, July 30, 2010 marks Medicare's 45th birthday! Will you join us in celebrating? We are encouraging all members to send a birthday card to each of their legislators and tell them that we have a great single payer system already in existence and it works, so why not expand it to everyone?
We are encouraging residents across the state to plan local rallies in their communities to celebrate the success of the Medicare program. MOM is willing to help activists across the state to plan these parties by providing organizing resources. If you are interested in planning a party in your area, please let us know.
The following parties are currently planned in support of Medicare's Birthday:
Akron:
Where: District office of Congressman Tim Ryan, 1030 Tallmadge Ave. Akron, OH 44310
When: Friday, July 30th, 12:00 PM
What: Activists plan to enter the office of Congressman Ryan to celebrate Medicare's 45th birthday, thank Congressman Ryan for co-sponsoring HR 676, encourage him to say no to proposed cuts to Medicare and Social Security, and encourage him to co-sponsor HR 676 when it is re-introduced into the new session of Congress. Following the celebration, will be a brief rally outside the office with a ceremonial balloon release (balloons made from biodegradable material).
Cleveland:
Where: Downtown Cleveland, Public Square, the North West quadrant
When: Friday, July 30th, 12:00 PM
What: Activists will be gathering in public square for a birthday celebration in honor of the 45th birthday of Medicare. We will hear testimonies from those that have been negatively affected by our current Health Care system, and expected speakers include a representative from the offices of Congressmen Kucinich, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, and Senator Sherrod Brown, as well as State Representative Mike Foley who will speak about the Ohio solution to Health Care Reform, the Health Care for All Ohioans Act.
